GEYWORLD is an alternative nightertainment event (music, f&b, artists market) founded by the industrial social working class community of Mettle Work. (website: www.mettlework.co)
Mettle Work is a coworking space set in a metal factory in edgy Geylang, somewhat like the early days of the then "gritty meat-packing district-now art lofts" in Manhattan. It houses an insatiable group of architects, designers (product, graphic, jewellery, packaging), leather makers, sustainable farmers, industrial lighting stylists, etc.
In the restless heat of a sober moment during a usual Mettle Work drinking night, (poor social working class ain’t got no moolah to go anywhere else) the booze-loving community decided to start GEYWORLD – an underground nightertainment event filled with great music, food and beverage, and an artists market (please bring CA$H), willingly bestowed upon us by local musicians, culinary masters, artists and designers respectively.
The name GEYWORLD is inspired by the historical amusement park of Singapore’s yesteryears, Gay World. (Gay was changed to Gey for the pride of Mettle Work’s strategic location in Geylang). Most imperatively, it carries the same spirit of the good ol’ Gay World amusement park, providing affordable entertainment for other working class Singaporeans alike. (Enough of shopping malls and movie theatres, please.)
25th July will mark our very first GEYWORLD event...more details to be unveiled soon!
